The Whitdel apartment building is located within the Hubbard Richard Historic District. It contains a total of 32 completely renovated and re-designed one, two and three bedroom apartments in a 4-1/2 story building comprising 38,000 sq. ft. The result of the renovation creates larger more desirable units that are modern and efficient while embodying the building’s historic charm. The Whitdel has been renovated in accordance to historic guidelines due to it’s location in a National Register Historic District and the subsequent use of funding through Historic Tax Credits. The existing Spanish-Moorish style building contains complicated brick corbelling, projected brick bays, entry arcade and courtyard, and a variety of molded limestone details that have been painstakingly restored to like-new condition.
As well as the residential units that the restored building provides, there is also area in the lower level reserved for the new Lady Bug Art Gallery and studio. The lower level provides exhibition space, a ceramics studio, a computer lab and a multi-purpose classroom that together foster an inviting and creative environment for local area artists.
We are proud to announce that the Whitdel was the winner of the 2008 CREW Detroit Impact Award for Special Impact. “The awards are presented annually to multidisciplinary real estate development projects located in Southeast Michigan… Winning projects demonstrate a significant and positive social and economic impact on the communities in which they are built.” |
